Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and lies on the north bank of the Tejo Estuary, on the European Atlantic coast. It\u2019s the biggest city in Portugal and the most occidental capital of Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisbon has the most pleasant climate, where the sun shines 290 days a year and the temperature rarely drops below 15\u00baC. The mild to warm temperatures in the Summer are an open invitation for a walk by the river, or to spend an afternoon in one of the many street caf\u00e9s and belvederes to be found all over the city.<\/p>\n

This is a city where you\u2019ll feel safe wandering around day or night, where the cuisine is dedicated to creating over a thousand ways to cook the beloved \u201cBacalhau\u201d (salted cod), and don\u2019t forget to visit Bel\u00e9m to get a taste of our world famous pastry.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Lisbon, also known as the \u201cTown of the Seven Hills\u201d, is ageless, but it loves company, as you\u2019ll find out if you meet someone and ask them to explain, with lots of gestures and repetition, where the best place is to listen to Fado. After all, Lisbon is famous for its hospitality and the family-like way it welcomes visitors.<\/p>\n

Its vast area offers a variety of different places, from beaches to mountains or countryside with beautiful forests, and areas of historical interest only a few kilometres away from the city centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come and walk throughout our typical Portuguese pavements, travel in its trams and funiculars, or in the metro with its impressive underground works of art. Admire the churches, the Castle of S\u00e3o Jorge, the narrow and venturous streets in the traditional neighbourhoods like Alfama, Mouraria or Bairro Alto. Lisbon also hosts a number of beautiful museums of ancient and modern art, gardens and parks. Its eclectic blend of neighbourhoods, culture and architecture distinguish this capital city uniquely from the other European capitals and make it a truly fascinating and comprehensive city to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The legendary history of this city is worth knowing, since from Lisbon has departed innumerous expeditions in the Discoveries era, from XV to XVII centuries. The city was rebuilt since the devastating earthquake in 1755 by Marqu\u00eas de Pombal, creating the place known as Baixa Pombalina, with Rossio and Terreiro do Pa\u00e7o famous squares \u2013 this last one with its beautiful archway opened up to the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
